Mumbai Local Train Users Confront Disruptions from Rain and Scheduled Maintenance

Central Railway suspended all Main Line services between CSMT and Thane because of heavy rain and waterlogging. Shuttle trains continued to run between Thane, Karjat, Khopoli and Kasara to maintain limited connectivity for passengers on those routes.

Central Railway Service Changes

Central Railway also began a megablock on Main and Harbour lines for maintenance work. This produced 15-minute delays between Thane and Matunga and stopped all services between Kurla and Vashi. Harbour Line services had already resumed around 3:00 am on Wednesday after a suspension that lasted more than 15 hours due to flooding. Earlier Central Railway trains on affected sections had faced delays reaching 45 minutes.

Western Railway Operations

Western Railway kept suburban services running across the Mumbai section. Seventeen early morning services were cancelled because of waterlogging, and remaining trains experienced delays of 20 to 25 minutes. These adjustments affected passengers relying on the line for daily travel.

Planned Safety Upgrade

Western Railway will introduce the indigenous anti-collision system Kavach on Mumbai local trains by late next year. The measure aims to improve safety once installed on the network.

Passengers travelling through CSMT, Thane, Kurla and Vashi stations encountered the combined effects of rain-related suspensions and the maintenance megablock on the same day. Those using Harbour Line services saw the longest recent interruption, with normal running restored only after the overnight suspension ended. The pattern of weather-related cancellations and engineering blocks continues to shape travel times for regular users of the suburban network.

Western Railway services remained the more consistent option despite the morning cancellations, while Central Railway passengers adjusted to shuttle operations and partial blocks. The upcoming Kavach rollout offers a longer-term change once completed.
